In short

  • This website sets no cookies and does not measure visits.
  • It loads nothing from other servers; the fonts are here too.
  • It is served through GitHub Pages. GitHub stores your IP address when it does so.

Delivery through GitHub Pages

This website is served through GitHub Pages. For users in the European Economic Area, the provider is GitHub B.V., Prins Bernhardplein 200, 1097 JB Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

GitHub receives your IP address with every page you open. By its own account, GitHub stores it for security purposes. We do not receive this data and have no influence over how long it is stored.

GitHub may transfer data to GitHub, Inc. in the USA. For this, GitHub relies on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest is serving this website securely and free of charge. More in GitHub's privacy statement.

No cookies, no analytics, no third-party content

This website sets no cookies and uses no tool to measure its audience. Fonts, images and scripts come from this website itself. Your browser asks no other server for them.

A stored setting: light or dark

If you choose a colour scheme, your browser stores that choice under the name ow-theme in its local storage. It does not leave your device. The legal basis is § 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG: storing it is strictly necessary for the service you asked for. You delete it with your browser's site data.

E-mail to us

If you write to info@openwhistle.net, we process your address, the content and the time in order to reply. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. We delete the e-mail once the request is settled and no statutory retention duty applies.

The e-mail is kept on the controller's own mail server. The server is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen. Hetzner processes the data on our behalf under Art. 28 GDPR.

The mail server logs every delivery: sender, recipient, time and the delivering server. These logs stay 30 days on the server and 365 days in our log archive. They serve to prove abuse and attacks (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Post to our address

To manage the post sent to us, we use the services of IMPRESSUM- PRIVATSCHUTZ GmbH, Ludwig-Erhard-Str. 18, 20459 Hamburg. This service provider offers a secure and reliable postal address for our project (e.g. the legal notice, the privacy policy, the cancellation policy and possibly other areas). This is also our legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. We have concluded a data processing agreement with Impressum-Privatschutz and fully implement the strict requirements of the German data protection authorities when using this service. You can find more information about data protection at Impressum-Privatschutz GmbH here: https://impressum-privatschutz.de/datenschutzerklaerung/

The demo at demo.openwhistle.net

The same controller runs the demo, on his server at Hetzner Online GmbH. Hetzner processes the demo's data on our behalf under Art. 28 GDPR. Its web server writes no access log and no error log, and the application stores no IP address.

Everything you enter in the demo is visible to every visitor. It is deleted every 6 hours. Do not enter real reports there.

The demo sets only cookies that are strictly necessary for it to work. ow_csrf protects every form against forged requests and lasts until the browser session ends. ow-submission-session and ow-status-session hold a report and its status check together, each for at most 2 hours. ow_session keeps you signed in to the admin area until the login expires. ow-lang remembers the language you chose for one year. Your browser stores your colour scheme under ow-theme, as on this website. The legal basis is § 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG: storing them is strictly necessary for the service you asked for.

The application's operational messages contain no IP addresses. They stay 30 days on the server and 90 days in our log archive, so that we can find faults (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). You may object to processing under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (Art. 21). To do so, write to info@openwhistle.net.

You may complain to a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the member state of your habitual residence or place of work (Art. 77 GDPR).
